The Taste of Monday

What are you up to organically lately? What do you eat that you swear by that's actually healthy? Please share.

The only consistently organic thing I buy is milk. I don't know why I skimp on organic. I fluctuate back and forth between saying it's too expensive and then saying - whatev. because it's so worth it.

I would like to incorporate these things into my diet:
Flax
All natural protein smoothies
Local and seasonal produce
Local and/or organic and grass fed meat

I found some great links for meat. Check these out.

And if you have anything I should know about...please tell me!

Our organic green beans have come in in the garden, so we are eating them steamed every night. They are so easy to grow, and I love that Keegan and I can eat them together. The tomatoes are not far behind, but I know that gets a "yuck-ola" from you!

Flax is super easy to get into your diet. I use it quite often; in smoothies, casseroles, but most of all as a substitute for eggs in baked goods. Just get some ground flaxseed at any local market. Add 1 tbsp to your casseroles, 1 tsp to your smoothies, etc. As an egg substitute use 1 tbsp flaxseed to 3 tbsp hot water, mix & let sit for 5 minutes, then mix into your batter...works perfectly & it's cholesterol free.

In my book what we put in our bodies is very nearly THE most important thing we could possibly spend money on . . that is if we allready have a roof over our heads. We buy pretty much only organic (quorn is unfortunately not organic but we've cut down using it. If it's not available or 4 times as much as non organic then we just don't buy it at all. The exception would be in the case of certain locally produced foods that we know are good. Most of Jimmy's family has been like you describe you are currently but they're buying more and more organic now. I guess they find the "can't afford it" bit hard to justify when they see us buy nothing but on a total income of about 700 bucks a month.

As for favorites. . .in Sweden it's very common to eat yogurt with your cereal. I have never quite been able to manage that with flake cereal but OMG LOVE me some yogurt with granola and then LOADED up with 'fixins' We have jars of different stuff in the pantry and I just throw together whatever I feel like

flax seed
pupkin seeds
sunflower seeds
dried fruits (berries, raisins, goji berries, coconut flakes, dried cherries-OMG sinfully good!!!)
fresh fruit

Eat that for breakfast and you are seriously FUELED
